4 June A party of 33 NCOs and men under Lt J W F Tarleton proceeded to Pretoria and took part in the Thanksgiving Service which was held to commemorate the cessation of hostilities, and to which, as far as possible, representatives were sent from all units.

6 June The following telegram from Lord Kitchener, (CinC, S Africa) was published for information:

"His Majesty's Government offer to you their most sincere congratulations on the energy, skill and patience with which you have conducted this prolonged campaign, and wish to communicate to the troops under your command, their profound sense of the spirit and endurance with which they have met every call upon them, of their bravery in action, of the excellent discipline prevailing and of the humanity shown by them throughout this trying period".

8 June The regiment moved camp to a fresh position, about a mile away.

10 June The party under Lt Tarleton, which had been sent to the Thanksgiving Service at Pretoria, returned. While at this camp, there was a good deal of polo, revolver and rifle shooting, football matches, also riding instruction and lectures for the men.

On the breaking up of this Column, the following message was received from Colonel Rimington, and published in Regimental Orders:

Colonel Rimington desires to thank all the Officers, NCOs and men for the good work which they have done since they came under his command, also to record his admiration of their excellent discipline and their cheerfulness under the most trying conditions. He is exceedingly proud of having always known how to tackle the enemy. He wishes them all good luck wherever they may be. I wish specially to thank my own regiment for their excellent work all round, and for the good example they have consistently set whilst in my Column, not only in regard to their dashing conduct in the field, but as to discipline and horse management. I greatly regret that it is only possible for a few of those whose names have been put forward by their Officers at the conclusion of this protracted struggle in which the regiment has conscientiously been in active contact with the enemy for two years and six months, to receive recognition by the Commander in Chief, but those who may not receive special awards must not necessarily feel their good work has not been appreciated. Amongst many other deserving names, the following are noted as being specially worthy of promotion, and I have much pleasure in putting this list on record, so that whenever vacancies occur, these NCOs and men may be promoted in their turn without delay in recognition of their consistent good service during the war.

RO dated 16 November 1910 - Commanding Officers Prizes for best trained Remounts.

3. NCOs' first prize Silver Cup and Rs. 30-0-0: Cpl AE Easter 'D98'. For the horses trained by Ptes of the Regt the difficulty of judging was so great that the Commanding Officer asked Maj Gen JSS Barker, CB, Commanding the 5th (Mhow) Division, Lt Col Short RHA, and Maj Hunt AVC to select the prize winners.

The competition was so close that the Commanding Officer decided to give a second and 3rd prize.

1st prize Silver Cup Rs. 30-0-0 - Pte Mitchell 'C' Sqn 'C61'.
2nd prize Silver Cup Rs. 20-0-0 - Pte W Sloan 'D26'.
3rd prize Silver Cup Rs. 15-0-0 - Pte S Haste 'C107'.

The training of the whole of these remounts attained to a high standard of excellence and the Commanding Officer wishes to place on record his thanks to Lt and Riding Master GH Beale.

Lt & Riding Master GH Beale has informed the Commanding Officer that he has received great assistance from Sgts' Savage, Clarke, 'D' and Roughan.

The Commanding Officer considers that the following NCOs and men are especially worthy of praise.

Pte Brady, Pte Martin, 'A' Sqn, Pte Williams, Cpl Haslehurst, 'B' Sqn, Pte Scott, Pte Trussler, LCpl Muncey, 'C' Sqn, Pte Devine, Pte Skelly, 'D' Sqn. These men had difficult and nervous horses told off to them giving them no chance to win a prize, and the Commanding Officer is very sensible of the good work they have done.
